Frank Slowik’s Story

It was in the summer of 1993. I was 22 years old and I realized my dream of going to the United States. I thought that being free was to do what I wanted, when I wanted but I also wanted to have a clean and stable life. In fact, this freedom made me unhappy and made me suffer and I was looking for something better without knowing what. One evening at the hotel, a choir came to sing … This time has changed my life. One of the singers was very very big and I thought at the beginning of the evening that the church was made only for sick people. Me, I was smart and I had just seen a gospel concert! 😉 During the concert, I felt the presence of God and something happened in my mind. At the end of the concert, I felt handicapped and empty. The big singer was so happy and enlightened!

We were invited to the church the following Sunday but I did not think to go there. I buy the tape “All hail the power” as a souvenir. The next day, as I rode on Highway 10 westward, I decided to listen to the tape and I lived face to face with God. I was crying like a baby, realizing that life without God was vain and asking God for forgiveness for my sins and my bad life. I felt miserable and needed a guide. I decided to go to church the following Sunday!

When I arrived at Phoenix first, I felt a lot of love. The welcome was impressive. I, the stranger, was welcomed as a child who returns home after a long absence. I was touched again by the songs and more, I discovered the love of God for me and the way to become one of his children. Pastor Barnett’s message was simple but so powerful that I decided to give my life to Jesus. Since then, I have become a pastor and together with my beautiful wife, we are establishing a new church in Biarritz, in the South West of France.

God has given us two wonderful children. Matthias, 16 and Sara 9 I’ve been to Phoenix several times in the last 15 years. I was blessed and impacted by pastor’s school and I had the chance to spend some time with pastors Tommy and Luke whom I love as brothers despite the distance. My life changed in Phoenix at Dream City Church. You are my family. “But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” – John 1. 12-13
