Sermon Recap: Led by a Dream

By December 18, 2023No Comments

Welcome to the second installment of our sermon series commemorating the centennial milestone of Dream City Church. Today’s sermon is called “Led by Dream.” If we had not followed the dreams God placed on our hearts, Dream City Church would not exist today.

Do You Have a Vision for Your Life?

Proverbs 29:18 reminds us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Throughout the times of the prophets, we witness the direct correlation between heeding the word of God and the blessings that came with that. Conversely, when the people neglected God’s guidance, chaos ensued.

It is the responsibility of the people of God to actively engage in creating a vision. When believers neglect their duty in this regard, society can fall into disarray. Each believer is granted access to the voice of God, and it is crucial to discern whether God is leading your life

Is God leading your life?

How are you feeling about your life and your future? Are you anticipating the future with excitement and expectation? If you have a vision for the next ten years, you may feel a sense of exhilaration. Conversely, the absence of vision may evoke a sense of something diminishing within. Without a vision, you may think that something is dying inside of you a little bit more each day.

A God-Sized Dream

In 2013, when the responsibility of leading the church was unexpectedly passed to me after my father’s heart surgery, I found myself without a vision for the church, lacking in God’s guidance. Desperate for a God-sized dream or revelation to infuse purpose into my days, I turned to a practice ingrained by my father—climbing the mountain before church with a Bible, seeking God’s vision during a Daniel fast.

Realizing I couldn’t lead the church without divine revelation, I earnestly sought God, and He responded with a grand vision—to cast a web of love across the entire state. It seemed audacious, but I sensed the Lord urging me that true faith is not hidden; it’s bold. With just one campus at the time, I stood before it and shared the dream. The outcome speaks for itself— from one campus to ten, from one Dream Center to four.

Our schools have become national leaders, fighting back against the culture with quality education for children. From the initial dream to the flourishing reality, all this originated in that desperate quest for God’s revelation. Keeping my focus on the Lord, despite the enormity of the vision, has led to a journey without regrets.

The pivotal decision to ascend the mountain in my desperation for God became the catalyst for everything that now exists. The need for a fresh revelation was paramount, and maintaining a steadfast focus on the Lord was non-negotiable. Despite the challenges, I harbor no regrets.

God’s dream for each individual may not necessarily be easier; in fact, it might be considerably more challenging. However, the transformative reward is the profound shift from the perishing, dying feeling to a spiritual adrenaline. It’s an invitation into a custom-designed mission, crafted by the divine, tailored specifically for you. Embrace the journey with the assurance that the difficulties are stepping stones to a purposeful and fulfilling existence.

Are You Hungry for God?

You might wonder if I’ve truly experienced such a transformative revelation. Is life really all that different for me? The answer is unequivocally: yes. It’s a game changer, a powerful shift. Yet, to fully grasp its impact, you must be prepared to acknowledge that the average Christian life may no longer suffice.

The question then becomes: How interested are you in a fresh revelation from God? To what extent are you willing to go, perhaps through a fast akin to the Daniel fast, to cultivate that hunger for God’s dream and vision for your life? The depth of your hunger could be the key to unlocking a profound connection with the divine and a purpose that transcends the ordinary.

God’s call can manifest in various ways – from monumental tasks like establishing medical clinics in foreign lands as one of our church members did, to more subtle shifts such as embracing a new nuance in your current vocation. While some may be called to entirely new paths, others find purpose in refining and enhancing what they are already doing.

Every Christ follower who reaches a point of discontent with a “perishing” existence and responds by seeking God through prayer, fasting, and solitude would attest it’s undeniably worth it. The sacrifice in prayer and the commitment to a time of solitude become the transformative ingredients that unlock a profound connection with God and bring about meaningful changes in one’s life.

In Philippians 3:8, Paul says, “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”

Examine your life today – is your heart pulsating with excitement from a fresh God-given vision, or are you gradually descending into a mundane routine with neat, safe prayers? I assure you that embracing this transformative journey will yield “joy unspeakable and full of glory.” (1 Peter 1:8-9)
